Potential Natural Vegetation:
Most of this area supports grassland vegetation. Indian ricegrass, blue grama, dropseed, and galleta are the major species. Alkali sacaton, fourwing saltbush, winterfat, and rabbitbrush grow in the valleys between mesas. Pinyonjuniper woodland is at the higher elevations and also on shallow soils and escarpments. The understory is western wheatgrass, galleta, sideoats grama and, in some places, big sagebrush.
