Most of the soils are Ustolls. They are deep, well drained, and medium textured and have a mesic temperature regime and mixed mineralogy. The nearly level to moderately sloping Argiustolls (Highmore, Eakin, and Glenham series) are on uplands, and other Argiustolls (Mobridge and Onita series) are in swales. Natrustolls (Cavo, Demky, and Jerauld series) also are on uplands. Ustorthents (Betts series) are on the steeper parts of the landscape, and Natraquolls (Hoven series) are in upland depressions.
