Potential Natural Vegetation:
This area supports open grassland, forest, and savanna vegetation. The grassland is characterized by little and big bluestem, green needlegrass, western wheatgrass, and needleandthread. Ponderosa pine grows in scattered open forest stands. Bur oak grows throughout the area, and in places it grows in nearly pure stands. Quaking aspen and eastern hophornbeam are scattered throughout the forests. Scattered green ash and American elm grow along with big bluestem along stream bottoms.
