MLRA 60A - Pierre Shale Plains and Badlands

Nebraska, South Dakota, and Wyoming
23,600 km2 (9,110 mi2)

Water:
Because of the limited precipitation, production of cultivated crops is marginal. Most of the soils are moist or wet early in spring and are deficient in moisture during much of the growing season. Water for livestock comes mainly from runoff that flows into dams. Few places have shallow-water wells for domestic use.
