Most of this area is in the Black Hills National Forest. The Black Hills area, an important tourist attraction, is used for mining, recreation, and hunting. Small farms and ranches, rural homes, and summer homes on small acreages are scattered throughout. Some timber is harvested. Small ranches and farms depend on the Black Hills National Forest for summer grazing.
